The Patek Philippe 5000G was born from a rumor.
A story passed quietly from one collector to another — that sometime in the early 1990s, Patek Philippe nearly collaborated with Ferrari. That sketches were made and that dashboards were studied.
And then, nothing was announced.
But in 1992, this appeared.
A Calatrava that didn’t behave like one.
It draws inspiration from a vintage Ferrari's dashboard.
Black dial. Off-center seconds. Condensed white numerals that feel more like an instrument rather than a jewelry. And look at the "9" — if the 1990s Daytona had an inverted six, this 1990s Calatrava has an inverted nine.
Given that this watch is powered by the Caliber 240 PS automatic movement, Patek was able to achieve an impressive 7.9mm case thickness - made possible by the micro-rotor, allowing it to achieve a slim profile all whilst having the daily reliability of an automatic caliber.
This Calatrava in 18K white gold was produced in very limited quantity - approximately 500-1,000 pcs for the white gold version.
The 5000G sits in that rare space between dress and drive — formal enough for linen, confident enough for leather, elegant without being fragile. A watch for someone who loves Patek Philippe… but doesn’t want to apologize for wanting something peculiar.
