2000s Omega Speedmaster "Mother of Pearl" (Box & Papers)

The Omega Speedmaster has spent most of its life being associated with NASA, the Moon landing, and tool-watch heritage. Which is exactly why references like this are so much fun—they remind you that Omega wasn’t afraid to get a little weird in the early 2000s.

This Speedmaster Ref. 3534.72 keeps the familiar silhouette intact: a wearable 39mm case, automatic chronograph movement, tachymeter bezel, and the unmistakable tri-register layout that made the Speedmaster famous. It still looks every bit like a Speedmaster—just one that decided to loosen its tie a little.

Because then you get to the dial.

Instead of the usual black dial NASA purists obsess over, Omega fitted this reference with a mother-of-pearl dial paired with vibrant green Arabic numerals. It sounds unconventional on paper—and it absolutely is—but somehow it works. Depending on the light, the mother-of-pearl dial reveals different tones and textures, while the green numerals make this one of the more unconventional Speedmasters from the era.

And that’s what makes this reference compelling today. It comes from an era when major brands were still willing to experiment—sometimes unsuccessfully, sometimes brilliantly. We’d argue this falls into the latter category.

The cherry on top is it comes full set and was fully overhauled by Omega Japan Service Center in 2022.
