The Vacheron Constantin Asymétrique ref. 25021 thankfully avoids that trap entirely.
Originally inspired by Vacheron’s asymmetric dress watches from the early 20th century, the watch feels unapologetically elegant in a way very few modern pieces dare to be. The slightly tilted rectangular case immediately changes the entire personality of the watch on the wrist. It’s subtle enough not to feel gimmicky, but unusual enough that you notice it instantly.
This particular example becomes even more striking thanks to its combination of an 18k white gold trapezoidal case and a mother-of-pearl dial. Depending on the light, the dial shifts softly between silver, cream, and pearl tones, giving the oversized Roman numerals a surprising amount of contrast and depth.
And importantly, Vacheron resisted the temptation to clutter the design. No date window. No seconds hand. No unnecessary text. Just proportion and shape carrying the entire watch.
