With its striking contrast dial and instantly recognizable case silhouette, there are few watches as universally understood as the Rolex Daytona. But this one carries a detail that changes the entire conversation.

The Reference 116509 is part of the era that introduced Rolex’s first fully in-house chronograph movement to the Daytona line, but just as importantly, it represents Rolex flexing quietly — luxury disguised as familiarity.

In the metal, it’s unmistakably Daytona: 40mm case, screw-down pushers, Triplock crown, and matching white gold bezel. But the weight and presence immediately give it away.

The dial balances black, grey, and metallic tones in classic Daytona fashion. No date, perfect symmetry, and that small red “Daytona” script acting like a signature at the bottom of a painting. Applied markers, luminous baton hands, and the applied coronet at 12 keep everything crisp and purposeful.

Inside is the widely respected Rolex Caliber 4130, the brand’s first fully in-house chronograph movement for the Daytona family.
