Must de Cartier Vendome

In the 1970s, as the quartz crisis challenged traditional watchmaking, Cartier chose to adapt to the changing landscape by introducing the Must de Cartier line. This line was designed to be more accessible to a wider audience while still retaining the iconic aesthetic Cartier was known for. The name 'Must de Cartier' was inspired by the idea that owning a piece of Cartier was a 'must.'

The Must de Cartier models, introduced during this period, were typically crafted in vermeil - sterling silver coated with gold - which offered a more affordable alternative to the traditional solid gold models. This was a bold and innovative move that allowed Cartier to maintain their reputation for luxury, while opening up to a broader market.

Although the Must de Cartier line was eventually phased out, it holds a significant place in Cartier's history as a pivotal moment where the brand was able to successfully navigate a changing market while preserving their iconic design and craftsmanship.
