In the late 1940s, Omega manufactured the Seamaster, and introduced it as THE watch accompanied by the abovementioned marketing headline. The Seamaster’s design elements combined with durable materials makes for a watch versatile for any occasion, as if Omega is inherently saying that there was simply no need for another watch. The Seamaster was, and is still is:
Refined for formal gatherings in town.
Resistant for a voyage at sea.
Reliable for the 9 to 5 labor for the economy and, ultimately, the country.
The Seamaster presented today lives up to Omega’s primary intention. Granted, it is a 44-year old watch, which goes by without saying that it shouldn’t be dipped in water nor worn during rugged labor. However, design-wise, the versatility is still intact. Whether worn to a dinner party or a casual stroll at the park, this piece won’t feel out of place, and, with its beefy case that wears larger than the 35mm diameter, makes it all the more wearable for today’s size standards.
