Up for your consideration: a 1966 Rolex Oysterdate Precision Reference 6694. The watch's design is simply timeless – a matte black dial paired with gold hour markers and Rolex's signature cyclops date.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Perhaps the most fascinating feature of this piece is the unusual pairing of a manual wind movement and a screw-down crown. The watch requires handwinding the crown to jumpstart the timekeeping function. Handwound movements are normally paired with quick-pull crowns for fast access to the winding position. Rolex, however, went with a screw-down crown, which requires rotating (unscrewing) the crown prior to accessing the winding position. It seemed like an engineering oversight – why the heck would they go with an odd combination like this, as it would require the unscrew-screw ritual every couple of days, adding unnecessary wear and tear to the watch?⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Fast forward to today, 57 years since the day this watch left the factory, and it still has the original crown and movement intact, a solid testament to the superior craftsmanship poured in by Rolex.⠀
